Consultant checking as discipleship

During December we’re focusing on learning to disciple. Please see the Prayer page to read our strategic prayer request for this month.

Last August, I was working with the Aruamu translation team. We were doing the final check on portions of Psalms and Proverbs. As we worked, we would often talk about the Scripture and what it means for our Christian lives. This is the part of Bible translation that I love where it is no longer just words, but impacting lives and helping people live full and joyful lives in Christ. jill

We laughed at the proverbs about living with a contentious wife. We debated the meaning of receiving a pledge to guarantee a payment of a debt. We discussed the metaphors about lions and bears. These are creatures not found in Papua New Guinea. At one point, one of the guys mentioned that he has trouble with forgiving people and living at peace with everyone. A short while later we read Proverbs 20:22: Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you. I mentioned to the group that this is a good verse to memorize and remember to help you forgive others. The Lord who is all powerful and all-knowing is far better able to deal with any situation or person. I was happy to see the guy writing the verse down. I hope that he is able to memorize it and strengthen his ability to forgive others and to live at peace with everyone.

Please join me in prayer that the Aruamu people will read and be deeply impacted by God’s word.
